Extra Dry Skin
Dry skin is caused by problems in the topmost layers of the skin, which regulates the amount of water in the skin. The outer layer of the skin contains oils and other substances, as well as different cellular structures, all of which act together to keep the skin soft, flexible and effective as a barrier between the body and the outside environment. In severe forms of dry skin, these imbalances are more serious and the skin becomes extra-dry, flaky and may develop tiny cracks that can't be seen by the unaided eye. These tiny cracks make the skin even more vulnerable by allowing irritating substances deeper into the skin. And, when nerves are affected, the skin can become quite uncomfortable.
