A sunburn is the result of overexposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation. A baby's skin is very thin and delicate, so despite your best precautions, a sunburn can happen — and it may take only ten to 15 minutes of exposure to cause one.

The best way to protect your baby is to keep him or her out of direct sunlight as much as possible, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest. Routinely dress your baby in a hat, lightweight pants, and a long-sleeved shirt for outings during the middle of the day.To further protect your baby’s skin, use a sunscreen specially formulated for babies or toddlers with SPF 15 or 30.
