Pregnancy Calendar: Track the Progress of Your Baby & Pregnancy

What Is a Pregnancy Calendar?

A pregnancy calendar is used to track your baby’s growth and development in the womb over the course of your pregnancy. There are a few different options when it comes to calendars. You may choose to buy your own to have a physical copy to take notes in, or you can look one up online to follow along. Online calendars will have you enter your date of birth and will then give you a week-by-week or monthly breakdown of your baby’s progress.

Tracking Your Baby’s Growth

Many calendars give you fun visuals to imagine the size of your baby. For example, some websites and pregnancy trackers use foods — at around 12 weeks, your baby is the size of a plum2! These calendars also let you know what is happening developmentally to your child. This can include what new organs they’re developing and when they may begin to move.

Tracking Your Body’s Changes

As your baby continues to grow, your body will undergo changes as well to accommodate your baby. Pregnancy calendars let you know what to expect as your pregnancy progresses. This often includes the symptoms you may experience, and how your uterus is changing. Some calendars, such as the week-by-week pregnancy calendar from Nemour’s Kids Health, details what happens to your body each week and why3.

This calendar also lets you know what to expect at your prenatal visits to the doctor throughout your pregnancy. For example, your first visit—which is usually around week 10—will include a thorough physical exam and you’ll get to hear your baby’s heartbeat! As your pregnancy progresses, you’ll have other tests at different weeks to check on your baby and your overall health2.

Making Plans for Your New Baby

It’s easy to get caught up in the new excitement of having a baby, and you may find yourself forgetting some details as you prepare. Some pregnancy calendars also provide information and reminders for planning and preparing your new life with your baby. These can include:

  • Creating a birth plan
  • Researching pediatricians for your baby
  • Calling daycare centers or thinking about childcare plans, if necessary
  • Looking into and scheduling childbirth classes

If you have a physical calendar, you can use it to mark down appointments and classes, helping you to stay organized all in one place.
