Baby care FAQs

Baby skin is up to 30% thinner than adult skin, making it more delicate, more sensitive, and more vulnerable to dryness than adult skin. Their skin barrier is still developing, losing moisture up to 2 times faster than adult skin, and needs extra protection. That’s why Aveeno® Baby products are made with prebiotic oat, humectants, and ceramides to help support newborn skin starting from day one.

Aveeno® Baby products are designed to help care for dryness, sensitivity, eczema-prone skin, and everyday irritation. Aveeno® Baby products are formulated with colloidal oatmeal and other soothing ingredients to calm and nourish sensitive or reactive baby skin.

Because baby skin loses moisture faster, it can become rough, flaky, or dry—especially in dry weather or after bathing. Oat ingredients like oat kernel extract and oat kernel flour help lock in moisture and soothe baby skin, making them ideal ingredients for preventing roughness or dryness.

Yes—baby acne is common and usually temporary. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, about 20% of newborns develop small red bumps within the first few weeks of life, and this neonatal acne typically clears on its own without treatment. The AAD recommends keeping care gentle:

  • Cleanse with lukewarm water

  • Avoid scrubbing

  • Do not use acne medicine or acne wash on your baby unless your child’s dermatologist or pediatrician recommends it

For everyday washing during this phase, you can stick to mild, soap-free, hypoallergenic baby products. Aveeno® Baby formulas are designed for delicate skin and made with prebiotic oat to help nourish and support the skin’s moisture barrier, making them gentle enough for daily care.

If acne appears after 6 weeks or worsens, the AAD recommends checking with a dermatologist to rule out other skin conditions
